Try supporting games that are still in development, but worth the investment of course, that you like the look of. Two of the best games I've played in years were on this basis, which I bought on Steam; The Forest and Space Engineers (as well as a few others!)

I like puzzle games: Infinifactory, The Talos Principle, Human Resource Machine Life Simulation: The Sims 3 + DLCs (Seasons, Generations) City Simulation: Cities:Skylines + DLCs (After Dark, Mass Transit, Snowfall) Business Simulation: Transport Fever, Software Inc Strategy: Endless Space 2 Adventure and Survival: Subnautica There are more DLCs but I only mentioned the "must have"s in my opinion.
